Scientific Activities

 

 1/3 Membership Of The Society In The International Geographical Union (IGU):
The Board of Directors sought to register the Society in the membership of the International Geographical Union, and the approval of the High Commissioner came to this, so that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represented by the Saudi Geographical Society is a member of the International Geographical Union, and the Union has approved this membership In November 2000 AD, and we hope that this will help to highlight the association globally and contribute to communication between geographers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other geographers around the world.

 2/3 The Society and the Geographical Society of the Cooperation Council States: The
Saudi Geographical Society contributed with great effort to working on the establishment of the Gulf Geographical Society, where the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Society chaired the founding committee of the Geographical Society of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, and put the capabilities of the Society of secretariat and equipment in the service of the Society fledgling.

 3/3 Establishing A Website For The Association On The Internet And Subscribing To The Association’s E-mail:
A website for the Society has been opened on the Internet since the date of 11/12/1421 AH with the help of the King Abdul Aziz House, under the name www.ksu.edu.sa/societies/sgs. The Board of Directors of the Geographical Society, in its 77th session on 3/22/1425 AH, decided to update and design A new site for the Saudi Geographical Society, and it has been agreed with the Central Textile Foundation to update the siteThe website was designed and opened, and the new website was opened on 7/28/1425 AH at the address: www.saudigs.org and contains fixed and renewable sections, including an overview of the association, its regulations, activities, membership request, association committees, as well as information basesThe association also sought to strengthen the connection with its members, as it now has an e-mail address at sgs@ksu.edu.sa and info@saudigs.orgThe development of the site began again in the month of Ramadan 1429 AH by the Browsing Corporation for Technology Solutions to make it more interactive with the userNew chapters have been added to the site in its new dress, including the association’s publications on PDF, the geographical forum, the archive of seminars, the installation of a special form for the news of the geography departments on the rapid geographical bulletin, a link for the symposiums of the geography departments, a link for the Al-Idrisi Award, and a link for specialized groupsThe new website was inaugurated in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the first general assembly of the association on 3/20/1430 AHThe site was developed in the month of Ramadan of the year 1433 AH with its new appearanceThe association is still working on adding more entrances that create greater interaction between the association, its members and those interested in its specializationThe site was developed in the month of Ramadan of the year 1433 AH with its new appearanceThe association is still working on adding more entrances that create greater interaction between the association, its members and those interested in its specializationThe site was developed in the month of Ramadan of the year 1433 AH with its new appearanceThe association is still working on adding more entrances that create greater interaction between the association, its members and those interested in its specialization.

 4/3The Association And Communication With Senior Officials In The State:
Believing in the importance of introducing the association to senior officials in the state, the members of the board of directors were keen to pay them visits to inform them of the association’s activities and projects, and then clarify the extent of what such projects need in terms of moral and material support. In this regard the following:
1- An interview with His Royal Highness Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz - Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Council in His Highness's office at the Royal Court at Al Yamama Palace in Riyadh on Monday 7/3/1420 AH - where the members of the Board of Directors visited His Honorable Highness and expressed their thanks and appreciation To His Highness the Crown Prince for the support and encouragement the Society found so that it was able to issue its first geographical encyclopedia about the Kingdom. The Chairman of the Board of Directors presented to His Highness the Crown Prince a copy of the Geographical Encyclopedia of Places as well as a commemorative shield and some of the Society’s publications. His Highness listened to a brief presentation on the goals of the Society The stages it has accomplished, including its activities since its inception until now.
2- An interview with His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz - Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General, on Tuesday 12/18/1421 AH, where His Highness was briefed on the activities and projects of the association, and His Highness praised the activities of the association and promised to support it . The second interview took place with His Highness on 1/23/1425 AH, and many souvenirs and books issued by the Saudi Geographical Society were presented to him.
3- An interview with His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz - Governor of Riyadh Region - and His Highness was briefed on the activities and projects of the association on Saturday 1/3/1421 AH, and His Highness expressed his satisfaction with the activity of the association and promised to support these projects.
4- An interview with His Excellency Professor Dr. Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Anqari - His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education - on Saturday 1/27/1422 AH. During the meeting, aspects of the association's activities and efforts were discussed, in addition to other topics of interest to geography and geographers.
5- An interview with His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Governor of the Eastern Region, on Tuesday 4/24/1424 AH, and His Highness was briefed on the activities and projects of the association. Then he discussed the possibility of cooperation between the association and the district board of directors.
6- An interview with His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Asaad Tawfiq, Chairman of the Saudi Geological Survey, on Wednesday 7/8/1425 AH, and His Excellency was briefed on the activities and projects of the Society. Then he discussed the possibility of cooperation between the association and the Saudi Geological Survey.
7- An interview with His Excellency the Minister of Planning, on 2/4/1427 AH, in which the importance of geography and its areas of interest were explained, focusing on the capabilities and experiences available to the members of the association, which welcomes any cooperation that serves the interest of the country. The response of His Excellency the Minister in the meeting was constructive and promising to provide the opportunity for geographers To take advantage of the information bases available at the Ministry, the meeting ended with the hope of holding other meetings with the specialized departments in the Ministry.
8- An interview with the advisor for classification and employment affairs at the Ministry of Civil Service on 4/19/1427 AH, and the paper presented by the association that includes a proposal for job classification for graduates of geography departments. The meeting ended with a promise from His Excellency the Advisor for Classification and Employment Affairs at the Ministry of Civil Service, Mr. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Malfi, to study the paper and, if necessary, to hold future meetings with officials in the association to determine more details about the proposed classification.
9- An interview with Professor Eng. Abdullah Bugshan, by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shawqi bin Ibrahim Makki, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Rabdi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Dr. Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Sulaie, Secretary of the Society, and Dr. Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Fadil, the treasurer of the association, and wa. Muhammad bin Ahmed Al-Rashed, a member of the Board of Directors, on 3/2/1431 AH. In the interview, a shield of thanks and appreciation was presented to Sheikh Bugshan for his support for the association’s trip to Socotra and Hadramout in the Republic of Yemen. Sheikh Bugshan praised the association's activities and promised to support it.
10- An interview with His Excellency Professor Dr. Sulaiman bin Abdullah Aba Al-Khail, Director of Al-Imam University. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shawqi bin Ibrahim Makki, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Rabdi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Dr. Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Fadil, the treasurer of the association, and wa. Muhammad bin Ahmed Al-Rashed, member of the Board of Directors, where the delegation briefed His Excellency on the activities and projects of the Society on Saturday 2/15/1431 AH. Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic, as a support for the Assembly.

 5/3 Donation By The Society:
The Saudi Geographical Society made a donation to Geojournal in the amount of (5625 Saudi riyals) (1500 US dollars), in order to include in the magazine a special article on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

 6/3 The Third Forum Of Arab Geographers:
The Saudi Geographical Society hosted the Third Forum of Arab Geographers, which was held during the period 24-26/8/1424 AH (corresponding to 20-22/10/2003 AD) in King Saud University in halls (26A, 7A, 7B - for men) and (Center for University Studies for Girls - for women).
Forum objectives: The forum aims to achieve the following objectives: 1- Identifying the reality of major cities in the Arab world in terms of their numbers, pattern of distribution, spatial relations, and the method of maintaining a balanced urban life. in city studies. 3- Determine the characteristics of the structure of major cities. 4- Determining the problems that cities face in all fields and identifying the factors causing these problems, while trying to find urban strategies to address these problems. 5- Identifying modern theories and methods in urban studies. 6- Honoring some creative Arab geographers.
Forum activities:1- Research. 2- Working papers. 3- Workshops. 4- A geographical exhibition (for books, computer systems and programs). 5- Field visits. (Governance Palace and King Abdul Aziz Historical Center, Riyadh City Center, King Fahd Cultural Center, Al-Athria, visiting Makkah Al-Mukarramah to perform Umrah). 6- Press, television and radio seminars.
Forum themes: 1- Cities studies in heritage books. 2- Distribution of cities. 3- Cities installation. 4- Services in cities. 5- The impact of natural and human factors on cities. 6- Applying theories and using modern technologies in urban studies. 7- The economics of citiesForum recommendations.

7/3 Workshops:
1- The association organized a workshop entitled: The name of my map with Google. The workshop was held by Dr. Ali bin Abdullah Al-Dosari, from the Department of Geography at King Saud University, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Geographical Society on 5/19/1432 AH at the King Saud Educational Complex at King Saud University.
2- The association organized a workshop entitled: The name of my map with Google. The workshop was held by Dr. Ali bin Abdullah Al-Dosari, from the Department of Geography at King Saud University, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Geographical Society on 6/28/1432 AH, in a complex in the Prince Sultan Educational Complex in Riyadh.

9/3 Geography Corner:

 The Saudi Geographical Society, in coordination with the Department of Geography at the College of Arts, organized a “geography corner” at the headquarters of the Preparatory Year Deanship during the period 15-16/5/143 AH, as part of the week of introducing the departments of humanities colleges at the level of Saudi universities. The corner included a visual and written definition of geography and its importance, and the plan The study corner of the Department of Geography at the university and the next plan for the department, and the facilities in it that support the knowledge, skills, and professional side of the student, which qualifies him to enter the labor market efficiently and competently. It was presented by Dr. Nasser bin Muhammad Salma to introduce specialization tracks, admission requirements, and training and job opportunities available to students. It is noteworthy that the corner was well received by the students of humanities in the Deanship of the Preparatory Year.
