First: Recommendations of the general assemblies of the Saudi Geographical Society:

Recommendations of the First General Assembly (held on 3/28/1405 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approving the administrative report of the association.
  2. Financial release of the founding committee.
  3. Formation of a board of directors for the Saudi Geographical Society in accordance with the new regulations approved by the Scientific Council of King Saud University in its session No. 11, dated 5/28/1403 AH.
  4. Working on amending the association’s bylaws, especially Articles 8, 10, and 15.

 

Recommendations of the Second General Assembly (held on 5/27/1406 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative report for the year 1405/1406 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the association for the year 1405 AH.
  3. Approval of the amended structure of the general framework, the basic regulations of the Saudi Geographical Society, in accordance with the amendments added by the conferees.
  4. Approval of the general structure of the geographical book.
  5. Approval of the general structure of the refereed journal to be issued by the Saudi Geographical Society.
  6. Supporting the association's capabilities and the need to find ways to achieve its independence.
  7. Approval of the work plan for the year 1406/1407 AH, and authorizing the Board of Directors to implement the plan within the framework of a system of priorities for what can be implemented according to the available capabilities, and the formation of specialized work teams to implement the items of the plan.

 

Recommendations of the Third General Assembly (held on 7/19/1407 AH, at the Riyadh Palace Hotel - Riyadh):

  1. Approval of the administrative assessment of the association for the year 1406/1407 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the association for the year 1406 AH.
  3. Approval of issuing a series: “Researches in the Geography of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
  4. Renewing the membership of the Saudi Geographical Society Board of Directors for another two years.
  5. Authorizing the Board of Directors to choose a logo for the association from among the slogans presented to the meeting.
  6. Approving the publication of a book: “The Geography of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” and writing for geographers wishing to contribute to this book.
  7. Postponement of the geographical terminology symposium due to lack of financial capabilities.
  8. Starting the implementation of the guide: “Summaries of Master’s and Ph.D. Theses,” that deal with topics related to the Kingdom’s geography.
  9. Postponement of the proposal to contact publishing houses to provide members of the association once every academic year with a list of research, as well as to issue a guide for geographers in the world.
  10. Approval of the final copy of the membership card of the Saudi Geographical Society.
  11. Preparing a paper that includes a study of the founding stages of the geographical societies at the global and regional levels and the location of the Saudi Geographical Society in them, in order to present it during the third general assembly of the Saudi Geographical Society on 7/19/1417 AH.
  12. The member's annual subscription shall be determined with the state budget on 10 Capricorns, and the member shall be notified of his late payment during the last three months of the subscription year.

 

Recommendations of the Fourth General Assembly (held on 6/8/1408 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative assessment of the association for the year 1406/1407 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the association for the year 1407 AH.
  3. Formation of the editorial board of the series: “Research in the Geography of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
  4. Approving the issuance of a guide for abstracts of scientific theses for members of the Saudi Geographical Society.
  5. Issuing a guide for geographers in the universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  6. Issuing a list of scientific theses completed and under completion in geography in the geography departments of the universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  7. Authorizing the Board of Directors to discuss the possibility of holding some scientific activities during the general assemblies of the Saudi Geographical Society.
  8. Approving the logo of the Saudi Geographical Society, which was chosen from a group of proposed designs, and agreeing that this logo be dated in the year 405 AH, as a culmination of the activation of the Society in this year, the establishment of its first general assembly, and the formation of its board of directors.
  9. Forming a permanent committee to prepare and supervise the geographical book that the association undertakes to complete, and to approve the general framework of the book’s topics.
  10. Issuing a newsletter issued every semester on the activities of the geography departments in the universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

 

Recommendations of the Fifth General Assembly (8/16/1409 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative assessment of the association for the year 1408/1409 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the association for the year 1408 AH.
  3. Formation of a new board of directors.
  4. Approval of the structure of the Scientific Theses Directory and changing its name to: “Directory of Geographical Master’s and Ph.D. Theses in the Universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
  5. Approval of the general structure of the series: “Research in the Geography of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

 

Recommendations of the Sixth General Assembly (held on 10/29/1410 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative assessment of the association for the year 1409/1410 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the association for the year 1409 AH.
  3. Approval of changing the name of “Series of Research in the Geography of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” to “Geographical Research.”
  4. Approval of printing the scientific research presented at the scientific meeting accompanying the annual meeting for the year 1410 AH, entitled: “Teaching Geography in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
  5. Membership is opened for a period of five years, at a discount of 20% for the subscriber.
  6. Approval of the proposal to activate scientific trips known to some regions of the Kingdom in return for a subscription that will be used to support the association’s finances.
  7. Establishing an advisory department for studies and planning in the association.
  8. Approval of the request from the Scientific Council of Saudi Universities to approve the association’s publications within the acceptable minimum for promotion.
  9. Adoption of commercial distributors for the association's publications.
  10. Approval of the association issuing an atlas of the population of the Kingdom based on the instructions of the population and housing census for the year 1413 AH.
  11. Determine a distinctive color for the publications of the series: “Geographical Research” for each year.
  12. Request from the Municipality of Riyadh to obtain land for the association.
  13. Approval of the advertisement in the “Geographical Research” series in areas related to the association’s specialization. Advertising fees have also been approved.
  14. Approving the inclusion of Sheikh Hamad Al-Jasser and Sheikh Abdullah bin Khamis as honorary members of the association.

 

Recommendations of the Seventh General Assembly (held on 10/25/1411 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative assessment of the association for the year 1410/1411 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the association for the year 1410 AH.
  3. Nominating a new board of directors for the next two years.
  4. Granting a Dr. Abdullah bin Yusef Al-Ghunaim, honorary membership of the Saudi Geographical Society.

 

Recommendations of the Eighth General Assembly:

  1. Approval of the administrative assessment of the association for the year 1411/1412 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the association for the year 1411 AH.
  3. Approval of the association's participation in the activities of the fourth symposium of the geography departments.
  4. Holding periodic meetings in the geography departments in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  5. Monitoring geographical master's and doctoral dissertations at the universities of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
  6. Granting honorary membership to Sheikh Hamad Al-Jasser and Sheikh Abdullah bin Khamis.
  7. List the geographical competencies that work in the public sector in fields other than teaching.
  8. Agree to update the membership card and membership application form.
  9. Approval of the understanding with the Municipality of Riyadh regarding exchanging the land located on Al-Nahda Road for a land similar to it in the area located south of Al-Rabwah Market to be leased to the association.
  10. Approving the issuance of the geographical bulletin and distributing it to the members of the association and to the editorial board formed by the Board of Directors.
  11. Approval of requests to join 32 members of the Saudi Geographical Society.

 

Recommendations of the Ninth General Assembly (held on 11/15/1413 AH, at the Cultural Palace in Al Sefarat District - Riyadh):

  1. Approval of the administrative assessment of the association for the year 1412/1413 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the association for the year 1412 AH.
  3. Nomination of a new board of directors for the Saudi Geographical Society.
  4. Nominating male and female coordinators for the association in the regions of the Kingdom and in girls’ colleges and departments.
  5. Approval of the Saudi Geographical Society arranging a meeting for the heads of geography departments in the Kingdom’s universities.
  6. Approving the printing of a book entitled: “Geographical Studies on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” which includes various studies articles published in refereed publications to be re-edited, and the search for an entity to fund this work.
  7. Documenting the link between the Arab Geographical Societies.
  8. Approving a program of public lectures and seminars in implementation of the decisions of the Eighth General Assembly.
  9. A petition was raised to the High Commissioner for ownership of the land leased by the Riyadh Municipality.

 

Recommendations of the Tenth General Assembly (held on 11/15/1414 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative assessment of the association for the year 1413/1414 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the association for the year 1413 AH.
  3. Authorizing the Board of Directors of the Saudi Geographical Society to form the permanent advisory body for the Encyclopedia of Geographical Dictionaries project.
  4. Approval of the list of geographical studies series, with the application of the scientific council’s list of series and scientific journals.
  5. Amending paragraph (c) of Article (4) of the Saudi Geographical Society bylaws to become as follows: “Those who wish to become members of a university degree and students in the field of specialization of the Society, who are residents and non-residents in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, shall enjoy membership.”
  6. Grants to each of: Sheikh Muhammad bin Nasser Al-Aboudi, Sheikh Saad Al-Junaidel, and Dr. Abdul Rahman Sbeit Al Sbeit, Undersecretary of the National Guard for Cultural and Educational Affairs, Honorary Membership of the Saudi Geographical Society.
  7. Approval of the preliminary procedures to start the implementation of the project: “Encyclopedia of Places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
  8. Formation of a committee for an edited book on “Studies in the Geography of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”, provided that the book includes two parts, natural and human.
  9. Approval of converting some of the research published within a geographical research series into television films under the title: “Geographical Horizons”.
  10. Approval of the Saudi TV presentation on ways of cooperation between the Saudi Geographical Society and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia TV.
  11. Approving the formation of the editorial board of a geographical research series.
  12. Approval of the renewal of the formation of the editorial board of the geographical bulletin.
  13. Approval of updating the master's and doctoral theses directory.
  14. Approval of the design and content of the board of honor for the members of the association.
  15. Allocating places in the geography departments of the universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to display and sell the association’s publications.

 

Recommendations of the Eleventh General Assembly (held on 11/13/1415 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative assessment of the association for the year 1414/1415 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the association for the year 1414 AH.
  3. Formation of the review and audit board for the “Encyclopedia of Places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” project, the general supervision board, and the editorial board.
  4. Approval of the dictionaries included in the “Encyclopedia of Places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” project.
  5. Approval of the forms of contracts concluded between the association and the authors of the dictionaries entered in the Encyclopedia of Places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and between the association and the designer of the computer program for the encyclopedia, and the contents of the design.
  6. Approval of the form of the contract between the Saudi Geographical Society and the secretary of the society and the encyclopedia.
  7. Nomination of Sheikh Abdullah bin Khamis for the Sultan bin Ali Al Owais Award.
  8. Approval of the criteria for selecting the book “Studies in the Geography of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”.
  9. Participation in the symposium “Desert Studies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Reality and Application” during the period 4-29/4/1415 AH, and in the exhibition of the Second Saudi Symposium on Food and Nutrition during the period 4-7/6/1415 AH.

 

Recommendations of the Twelfth General Assembly (held on 23/11/1416 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative estimate of the Association for the year 1415/1416 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1415 AH.
  3. Approval of the development of a form for the evaluation of the meetings of the General Assembly of the Saudi Geographical Society in theorganizational aspect of the General Assembly meeting and the accompanying dialogue, in addition to questions and suggestions on the periodic scientific meetings of the Society.
  4. Approval of the selected research for the book: "Studies in the Geography of the Kingdom (7 researches) in physical geography, (20 researches) in human geography, and on the controls for editing the book.
  5. Approval of a draft book: "Development and Desertification Problems: An Applied Study of the Sir Region in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
  6. Approving the controls and standards of new scientific projects adopted by the Saudi Geographical Society.
  7. Investing part of the Society's capital in one of the safest trading funds so that the Society can increase its income to expand its scientific and research activity.
  8. Approval of the issuance of a guide for graduate and undergraduate plans in geography departments in the Kingdom.
  9. Participation of the Chairman of the Board of Directors in the monthly meeting organized by the Saudi Society for Educational and Psychological Sciences (Justin) entitled: "Scientific Societies and the Required Role" on 30/10/1416 AH.
  10. Renewal of the membership of the editorial boards of the Geographical Research and Geographical Studies series.
  11. Donation to Geojournal of  1500 US dollars (5625 Saudi riyals) for the publication of a special issue on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Journal No. 37, p. 1, 1995).
     

Recommendations of the Thirteenth General Assembly (held on 23/12/1417 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative estimate of the Association for the year 1416/1417 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1416 AH.
  3. Approval of granting Sheikh Ataq bin Ghaith Al-Baladi honorary membership of the Association.
  4. Approval of the adoption of the name "Geographical Encyclopedia of Places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".
  5. Formation of a new board of directors for the association.
  6. Preparing and directing a book containing the names of all encyclopedia entries with coordinates, type of place and region.
  7. Preparing a guide to the encyclopedia that includes a full explanation of how to operate the program, the way to write commands, and obtain information, maps, pictures, and the terms included in the encyclopedia about the types of places.
  8. Directing the encyclopedia project on laser cylinders, and determining the selling prices of the encyclopedia.
  9. Issuing an introductory leaflet about the association.
  10. Approval of updating the directory of geography departments, with the addition of a new field for scientific production for faculty members.
  11. Participation in the exhibition of the Saudi Geosciences Society during the period 3-5/6/1417 AH.

Recommendations of the Fourteenth General Assembly (held on 25/1/1419 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative estimate of the Association for the year 1418/1419 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1418 AH.
  3. Approval of printing (3000 copies) of the book: "Directory of Geographical Locations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia", and the Association obtaining 200 copies distributed by it.
  4. Agreement with the publisher to publish a series of geographical research and geographical book.
  5. Approval of updating the directory of master's and doctoral theses and the directory of geography departments in the universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  6. Approving the proposal of an encyclopedia at the level of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, while studying the possibility of the participation of the General Administration of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf in the implementation of this proposal, assisting in coordination with the concerned authorities, and researching ways of material and moral support for the project.
  7. Approval of the printing of a book: "Studies in the geography of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".
  8. Establishing a Gulf Geographical Society.
  9. Approval of the initial letters of the Saudi Geographical Society in Arabic (JJS) and Latin (SGS).
  10. Approval of amending the sale prices of the Geographical Encyclopedia of places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  11. Approving the system of "Geographical Names and Places Unit in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".
  12. Make a wall calendar in the name of the association.
  13. Request the headquarters of the Geographical Society in the embassy district and equip this headquarters.

Recommendations of the Fifteenth General Assembly (held on 15/11/1419 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative estimate of the Association for the year 1419 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1419 AH.
  3. Approval of the launch of the "Geographical Encyclopedia of Places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".
  4. Approving the system of "Places and Geographical Names Unit in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the formation of the members of the unit.
  5. Approval of the accession of the Society to the membership of the International Geographical Union.
  6. Urging the heads of geography departments to attend the meeting of heads of departments in the universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of the sixth symposium of geography departments in the Kingdom's universities in Jeddah.
  7. Approval of the Society's participation in the exhibition accompanying the sixth symposium of geography departments in the Kingdom's universities by presenting the Association's publications.
  8. Continuation of work in the production of geographical scientific films.
  9. Agree to subscribe to the Internet and design a website for the association.
  10. Forming a committee to study the possibility of making administrative maps for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  11. Replace paragraph (4) of the publication rules with two series of geographical research and geographical studies to become as follows:

"All assets are presented in printing on  Floppy Disk 3.5  MS Windows, leaving a space and a half between each line and another in Traditional Arabic  font for the body and  Monotype Koufi  font for headings, 16 white font for the body, and 12 white font for margins (black font for Quranic verses and hadiths), and the maximum search can be (75) pages, and the minimum (15) pages.

  1. Representing the Society in the First Arab Geographers Forum at Sana'a University during the period 27-30/7/1419 AH.

Recommendations of the Sixteenth General Assembly (held on 22/1/1420 AH at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University):

  1. Approval of the administrative estimate of the Association for the year 1420 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1420 AH.
  3. Approval of the start of the second phase of the encyclopedia of places project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  4. Holding a geographical press seminar in Al-Riyadh newspaper entitled: "Geographical Distribution of Development Services".
  5. Approving the regulations for establishing branches of the Association.
  6. Approval to amend the sale price of the Encyclopedia of Places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  7. Referring the issue of classification and unified names for terrain, and translating soil names to the Places and Geographical Names Unit in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  8. Establishment of the "Tourism Development Research Unit" in the Society.
  9. Coordination with the General Directorate of Survey at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in the implementation of the administrative maps project in the Kingdom.
  10. Approval of the publication of a series of books on cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  11. Approval of the formation of a committee to follow up on the recommendations of the visit of the Syrian delegation to the departments of geography at King Saud University, Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, and King Abdulaziz University.
  12. Nomination of a new editorial board for two series of geographical research and geographical studies.
  13. Supporting the participation of the Society with its publications in the Fourth Arab Exhibition for Research, Periodicals and Bulletins held in Damascus during the period from 28/7-3/8/1420 AH, and in the Riyadh Book Fair held at King Saud University during the period 7-20/7/1420 AH.

Recommendations of the Seventeenth General Assembly (held on 15/2/1422 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative estimate of the Association for the year 1421/1422 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1421 AH.
  3. Approving the rules for issuing a refereed periodical magazine named "Journal of the Saudi Geographical Society".
  4. Approval of the reformulation of the basic rules of the association in accordance with the rules governing scientific societies in the universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by Resolution No. 10/15/1420.
  5. Approving the opening of the Society's website on the Internet since 12/11/1421 AH, and approving the fees for using databases on the site.
  6. Taking note of the approval of the High Commissioner that the Saadian Geographical Society be the representative of the Kingdom in the International Geographical Union, and the Union has accredited the membership of the Society since November 2000.
  7. Mubaraka chairs the President of the Saudi Geographical Society for the founding committee of the Geographical Society of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
  8. Approval of the establishment of the "Center for Scientific Theses issued by the Departments of Geography in the universities and colleges of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".
  9. Establishing a database on geographers in Saudi Arabia and Syria to be the nucleus of a comprehensive database of Arab geographers.

Recommendations of the Eighteenth General Assembly (held on 14/1/1423 AH, Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University):

  1. Approval of the administrative estimate of the Association for the year 1422/1423 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1422 AH.
  3. Renewal of the Board of Directors of the Association for a new term.
  4. Approving a proposal to establish an award under the name of "Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Geographical Award" dedicated to the best geographical research, the best geographical book, and the best geographical student, and coordination with the King Abdulaziz Foundation regarding the support of the award.
  5. Taking note of the approval of the High Commissioner to host the King Abdulaziz House for the first general assembly meeting of the Geographical Society of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
  6. Approval of the Association's hosting of the Third Forum of Arab Geographers, provided that the theme of the forum will be: "Major cities in the Arab world".
  7. Continue the search for support for the second phase of the project of the geographical encyclopedia of places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and address the King Abdulaziz House and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology.
  8. For not obtaining a clear statement of the status of the land of the Assembly, the General Assembly approved the proposal to write to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques requesting land for the Assembly in the city of Riyadh to establish an official headquarters.
  9. Buying a car for the association to secure the movements of its employees and members, receive its guests and perform its various tasks.

The Nineteenth General Assembly (held on 24/1/1424 AH, King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative estimate of the Association for the year 1423/1424 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1423 AH. 
  3. Noting the efforts made to grant the Society a plot of land in Riyadh to establish its headquarters and invest part of the land to secure self-financing to spend on its scientific and future projects. 
  4. Approving the formation of executive committees to hold the Third Forum of Arab Geographers after obtaining the approval of the High Commissioner to hold the forum.
  5. Approval of the project of the second phase of the geographical encyclopedia of places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 
  6. Acknowledging the publications of the "Geographical Researches" and "Geographical Studies" series during the past year.
  7. Forming a committee to set the rules for establishing the "Islamic Studies Unit" in the Saudi Geographical Society. 
  8. Forming a committee to develop a system for specialized groups to be established in the Saudi Geographical Society with the aim of activating research and scientific activities in all sub-fields in geography. 
  9. Approval of the work of a booklet on the Journal of the Saudi Geographical Society Court, which was approved by the seventeenth General Assembly of the Saudi Geographical Society on 15/2/1422 AH.  It includes the specifications of the journal, its topics, publishing rules, selling prices internally and externally, and urging publication in it. 
  10. Approving the cooperation program between the Saudi Geographical Society and some relevant scientific and service institutions, which includes: assigning specialized groups in the Saudi Geographical Society to study what is related to the development of geography curricula in public education, forming a special committee to search for ways to provide job opportunities for geographers, addressing the heads of geography departments about the idea of reconsidering the departments' programs to be appropriate to the needs of the labor market, and urging community service centers to prepare training programs for graduates of geography departments in the form of short courses or high diplomas.
  11. Buying a car for the association and determining its type and the approximate amount allocated to it to secure the movements of its employees and perform its various tasks in light of the inability to obtain a car through donation.  

The 20th General Assembly (held on 12/1/1425 AH, at Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz Hall at um Al-Qura University): 

  1. Approval of the administrative estimate of the Association for the year 1424/1425 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1424 AH. 
  3. Studying contracting with one of the accounting and legal review institutions by the Board of Directors to audit the accounts of the Association during the year and the final accounts and budget of the Association at the end of each fiscal year. 
  4. Append the budget of the Third Forum of Arab Geographers to the accounts of the Association and submit a statement to the Board of Directors of the areas of disbursement after the completion of its accounts and retrieved from them. 
  5. Nominating a new Board of Directors for the Association for a future two-year term. 
  6. The 20th General Assembly was briefed on the activities of the Third Forum of Arab Geographers, which was held at King Saud University during the period 23-26/8/1424 AH (corresponding to 19-22/10/2004 AD), and the recommendations of the forum related to various issues of Arab cities were attached.
  7. Approval of the rules of the Prince Salman Geographical Award
  8. Approving the rules of specialized groups. 
  9. Approving the rules of scientific trips with a recommendation that the rules include students under a female administration. 
  10. Approval of the project of establishing the Islamic World Geography Studies Unit and the rules of the unit. 
  11. The twentieth General Assembly was briefed on the draft refereed journal in information systems and geographical technologies, and the rules of the journal consisting of the objectives of the journal, its editorial board, and the rules of publication were approved, taking into account the recommendation of coordination between the Arabic and English names of the journal name. 
  12. The General Assembly discussed the proposal to prepare a national plan for the study and teaching of geography in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to upgrade the curricula of geography and convert the proposal into a workshop to which the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Civil Service, and other relevant authorities are invited.

A- Review the name of the plan.

B- Evaluating the current status of geography curricula in public education .

C- Forming a team from the new Board of Directors to visit the relevant ministries and government departments to clarify the importance of geographical research related to various aspects of development.

D- Renewal of the editorial board of the "Geographical Research" and "Geographical Studies" series, appointing new members to the advisory board for the series of geographical studies and appointing a secretary for scientific publications. 

  1. The General Assembly blessed the cooperation efforts of the Saudi Geographical Society and the National Association of Moroccan Geographers, and recommended that cooperation between the Saudi and Moroccan associations be under the umbrella of cultural cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Morocco. 
  2. Approval of the recommendation of the outgoing Board of Directors regarding the investment of the balance of the Association according to the following options:

A- Continuing the current investment approach by Murabaha method.

B- Buying a suitable investment property.

C- Establishing a center for the production of maps.

The General Assembly also recommended adding a fourth option, which is to study the establishment of a training center that grants a diploma in geographic information systems to male and female students.

  1. Approval of the participation of the Saudi Geographical Society in the International Geographical Union Conference to be held in Glasgow, Scotland in 2004, in accordance with the procedures followed to attend conferences and seminars outside the Kingdom according to the following steps: 

A- The participation of the Association in the conference consists of the Chairman of the Board of Directors, the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors participating in the conference and the treasurer of the Association participating in the conference and opening the way for those who wish to the conference. 

B- Preparing a report in English on the activities and activities of the Saudi Geographical Society and the geography departments in the Kingdom to be submitted to the International Geographical Union.

C- Participation in the conference with research issued by two series of geographical research, geographical studies and other publications of the Society, and research of Saudi geographers.

Recommendations of the Twenty-first General Assembly (held on 14/2/1426 AH, at the Center for Research and Studies of Medina):

  1. Approval of the administrative estimate of the Association for the year 1425/1426 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1425 AH. 
  3. Members of the Research and Studies Unit and the Cultural and Media Committee of the Association shall be formed. 
  4. Taking note of the approval of His Excellency the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research on the rules of scientific trips under letter No. 2529000387 dated 21/4/1425 AH, and the steps that were implemented in sending those rules to His Excellency Dr. Abdellatif Faisal Fadlallah, President of the Moroccan Geographical Union and the study of the exchange of scientific trips, and referring the subject to the Cultural and Media Committee to follow up on those steps, and it is proposed that the first foreign scientific trip coincide with the Fourth Forum of Arab Geographers to be held in Morocco, if he wishes. God. 
  5. Approving the formation of the editorial board of the "Arab Journal of Geographic Systems and Technologies", and its advisory board, and amending its name to the "Arab Journal of Geographic Information Systems", and determining the selling prices and timing of its issuance by (two issues) per year, and the first issue of the year of issuance (autumn issue) and the second edition of the same year (spring issue), and the issuance of a brochure known as the Arab Journal of Geographic Information Systems. 
  6. Briefing on the results of the two panel discussions: "Preparation of a National Plan for Teaching Geography in Public and University Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia", held on Monday, 20 Shaaban 1425H (corresponding to 4 October 2004G), and "Municipal elections and the role of geographical factors in their success", held on Monday, 23 Shawwal 1425H (6 December 2004). 
  7. Reviewing the participation of the Saudi Geographical Society by submitting a paper included in the general report of the International Geographical Union for the period from 2000-2004, on the achievements of the Saudi Geographical Society during the past four years, and also participated in the exhibition accompanying the conference with a special pavilion displaying the scientific production of the Saudi Geographical Society and some of the production of Saudi geographers outside the Society. The conference was attended by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shawqi bin Ibrahim Makki, President of the Saudi Geographical Society, representing the Saudi National Committee, and also attended the three meetings of the General Assembly of the International Geographical Union and many scientific sessions and panel discussions of the conference. A side meeting was held between the former Vice President of the International Geographical Union (President of the Union in 2004), the President of the Tunisian Geographical Society, and the President of the Saudi Geographical Society, on highlighting the geographical identity of Arab geographers at the thirty-first conference to be held in Tunisia in 2008, hopefully. 
  8. Blessing the launch of the new website of the Society on the Internet on 28/7/1425 AH, at the address:  www.saudigs.orgsgs@ksu.edu.sa It is a development of the site that was previously launched on 12/11/1421 AH under the name: www.ksu.edu.sa/societies/sgs/ The  new site now contains fixed and renewable doors, including an overview of the association, its regulations and activities, membership requests, committees of the association, in addition to databases. The association also sought to strengthen the link with its members, as it became an electronic haberda at the address andinfo@saudigs.org
  9. To approve the executive rules governing the Saudi Geographical Society. 
  10. Approval of the conversion of the type of writing font in the "Geographical Research" and "Geographical Studies" series from Traditional Arabic  to  Al-Hotham, due to its suitability for printing presses and its clarity in the final printing. 
  11. The General Assembly blesses the efforts of equipping, arranging and coordinating the Association's library so that it can be used by interested members of the Association, with the approval of contracting with a specialist to arrange and index the Association's library and enter its contents on the computer. 12
  12. Approving the appointment of 15 coordinators for the association in the departments of geography in the Kingdom's universities, with clarification of the coordinator's tasks. 
  13. Agreeing to merge the theme of the "Saudi Cities" and "Saudi Countryside" series into one series called "Saudi Cities and Countryside", and to start writing about AlUla and a village in Al-Ahsa representing the Saudi countryside.
  14. Forming a committee to study a proposal: creating a digital map of the Kingdom with its own database, and forming a committee to make wall maps in the name of the association.
  15. Approval of the program of panel discussions and public lectures presented by the Society during the past year. 
  16. Approval of the project of translating the website of the International Geographical Union (IGU) into Arabic and linking it to the website of the Association and the website of the Union. 
  17. Briefing on the efforts of liaison with the Geological Survey and King Abdulaziz House to implement the second phase of the development of the geographical encyclopedia of places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 
  18. Approval of holding a panel discussion on geography education, which will be held by the Saudi Geographical Society in cooperation with the Department of Geography at King Saud University and the participation of visiting Professor Alexander Ian Schalmers, Chairman of the Geography Education Committee at the International Geographical Union and Associate Professor at the University of Waikato in New Zealand, Prof. Dr. Hassan Ayel bin Ahmed Yahya, Dean of the Teachers College in Jeddah, and Dr. Ali bin Maada Al-Ghamdi, a faculty member in the Department of Geography at King Saud University. And invite members of the team authoring social materials at the Ministry of Education in Qassim to meet with members of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Geographical Society and those who wish from the members of the association. 
  19. Approval of the proposal of the Board of Directors to dispose of the old files of research assets that were published or not accepted for publication in two series of geographical research and geographical studies based on the recommendation of the editorial boards to keep the research assets for a period of five years, after which the files of the assets are destroyed and only a copy of the research is kept on magnetic tape (if available).

Recommendations of the Twenty-second General Assembly (held on 27/2/1427 AH at King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative report of the Association.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Association.
  3. Approval of the Society's participation in the International Geographical Conference in Tunis in 2008 with two axes on the natural and human geographical causes of the phenomenon of desertification in the Arab region, and the role of Arab geographers in the geographical heritage.
  4. Work with the opinion of the Director of the Legal Department at King Saud University about signing the minutes of the Board of Directors of the Association on the same day of the Council or the minutes are sent to the members who actually attended the meeting at their sites by fax for the purpose of signing and the signatures are attached with the minutes, even if they are by fax.
  5. Approval of the implementation of the pocket map, the map of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and thematic maps.
  6. Approval of the strategic plan questionnaire form of the Society to be distributed to members at the beginning of the second semester of 1426/1427 AH.
  7. Blessing the efforts of the Chairman of the Board of Directors to reconcile the Moroccan Geographical Union and the National Association of Moroccan Geographers on the organization of the Fourth Forum of Arab Geographers.
  8. Approval of the program of participation in the activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of King Saud University.
  9. Approving the cooperation plan between the Society and the Ministry of Education and taking note of the letter of the Minister of Education on the possibility of benefiting from the plan it submitted.
  10. Approving the establishment of a scientific center in the association for the purpose of implementing consultations and work related to geography, which helps to activate the association's resources.
  11. Approval of changing the phrase "non-periodical" attached to the cover of the series "Geographical Research" and "Geographical Studies" to "Periodic Court Series issued by the Saudi Geographical Society" in accordance with international standards that give the status of periodicity in order for a series issued successively and have serial numbers, whether they appear at a specific time or otherwise.
  12. Agree to print a "private letter" addressed to companies and institutions to request the support of the association.
  13. Approval of the appointment of a legal auditor for the association: Abdul Majeed Hamza Agouza Office.
  14. Request a detailed report on the disbursement of the budget of the Third Forum of Arab Geographers and the remaining Fund of the Association.
  15. Approval of the addition of several features on the association's website to develop the feature of interaction with members.

Approval of the association's participation in the International Geographical Olympiad in coordination with the Ministry of Education, and participation in the subject of the environment in the Brisbane Conference in Australia, and the nomination of a member of the association, Prof. Hassan Ayel bin Ahmed Yahya for membership in the Geography Education Committee in the International Geographical Union.
  17. Encourage members to participate actively in IGU Focus Groups.
  18. Approval of the request to host the meeting of the Inclusive Lands, Man and Environment Group of the International Geographical Union, and the Maps and Geographic Information Systems Group, and to hold an accompanying panel discussion in the Kingdom.
  19. Nomination of Prof. Dr. Yahya bin Muhammad Sheikh Abu Al-Khair, and Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Habib for the Mati Dogan Foundation Award for Joint Research.
  20. Reviewing the efforts made to develop the rules governing scientific societies at King Saud University.
  21. Approval of printing 1000 copies of the leaflet prepared by the association to introduce the objectives and activities of the association.

  24. Approval of printing 1000 copies of the book "Achievements of the Society 1405-1426 AH" to accompany the university's celebrations of the 50th anniversary of its establishment.

  33. Approval of the new prices for the sale of the numbers of two series of geographical research and geographical studies.
  34. Approval of the formation of a national committee to participate in the celebration of the International Year of Planet Earth.
  35. Approving the formation of a general secretariat in the Saudi Geographical Society for Saudi Geographical Seminars and Forums to follow up on the recommendations and participate in organizing them.

Recommendations of the Twenty-third Assembly (dated 2/3/1428 AH, at the Celebration Hall of Al-Magwah Park in Hail, hosted by the University of Hail):

  1. Approval of the administrative report for the year 1427 AH / 1428 AH approved by the office of Mahmoud Al-Sabban as a legal auditor.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1427 AH.
  3. Blessing the efforts of the Board of Directors in meeting His Excellency the Minister of Planning on 2/4/1427 AH, and meeting the Advisor for Classification and Employment Affairs at the Ministry of Civil Service on 10/5/1427 AH, on the equivalence of the proposals of the Association's paper with the classification available at the Ministry, and the Association responded on 25/11/1427 AH, with proposals to add new names for the employment of geography graduates commensurate with the development of geographical knowledge. The Society received a letter dated 5/1/1428 AH thanking the Ministry for the Society's communication and that the subject will receive the Ministry's attention, and then amending and adding what can be done in the applicable classification guide.
  4. Approval of the scientific program and proposed budget on the occasion of the celebration of the International Year of Planet Earth, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of earth sciences to reach sustainable development and develop national, regional and global initiatives in this field. The search is underway for a supporter of the occasion and then raise to the university in preparation for raising to the high place.
  5. The Council was informed of the International Geographical Union (IU) on the preparation of the "Cultures and Civilizations for Human Development" initiative to develop a plan of action submitted to the United Nations for the proclamation of the International Year of Dialogue "Cultures and Civilizations for Human Development", which set out many of the social and scientific objectives of this international event. The Council was informed of what has been done on the subject by sending letters to a number of parties regarding support for this project, and the approval for moral support on behalf of the Assembly has been sent to the Federation. As for financial support, a number of entities in the Kingdom have been addressed in accordance with the rules governing this.
  6. Proposing the work of a panel discussion within the activities of the Janadriyah Festival, to which participants from within the Kingdom and from the International Geographical Union are invited, and then addressing the authorities responsible for the festival for this participation within the university's communication channels, and the Council was informed of the response to the Assembly's request to adopt the panel discussion for the year 1429 AH (Janadriyah 23) within the program of celebrations of the National Festival for Heritage and Culture.
  7. Approval of printing the topics of the discussion panels and lectures held by the Society during the past three years in the form of a publication tagged "The Cultural Season of the Saudi Geographical Society".
  8. Approval of a book on "Trends of Practical Production in the Publications of the Saudi Geographical Society" and participation in it on the occasion of the celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the establishment of the first General Assembly in the Saudi Geographical Society.
  9. Approving the general design of the membership card in the association.
  10. Approval to host Mr. Hattab Sofiane from the University of Houari Bou Mediene in Algeria in the Saudi Geographical Society in accordance with the regulations in force at King Saud University, without the association incurring any costs incurred by the visit.
  11. Approval of the appointment of Al-Sabban Office to audit the accounts of the Association annually, and it was also agreed with Mr. Murad Abdullah Sayed Abdul Karim to organize the data of the Association as required by the accounting systems in the Kingdom for the budget of the year 1426/1427 AH.
  12. Blessing the efforts to launch the website of the International Geographical Union, which the Society has translated into Arabic, designed and added to the Society's website on the Internet, and approving the steps taken to translate the "Geographical Bulletin" into Arabic in preparation for its inclusion in the Society's page on the Internet, and agreeing to start translating issue No. (6) of the Geographical Bulletin, as requested by the International Geographical Union, and then completing the translation of other and future issues after the completion of Issue No. (6).
  13. Approval of the report of the participation of the Saudi Geographical Society in the Sixth Geographical Olympiad in Brisbane, Australia during the period 26/6-3/7/2006, and the International Regional Geographical Conference during the period 3-7/7/2006: An integrated report was submitted to His Excellency the Minister of Education on the participation of the student delegation from the Kingdom in the Sixth Olympiad.
  14. Approval of the support of the request of the Tunisian Association for Digital Geographic Information, regarding scientific cooperation between the two associations and the exchange of expertise and experiences in the field of digital geography.
  15. Approval of the nomination of His Excellency Prof. Dr. Mohamed Shawky bin Ibrahim Makki, Chairman of the Board of Directors, for the position of Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Geographical Union following the death of the Russian Deputy of the Federation.
  16. Approval of the program of the meeting of the drylands group in Riyadh, and the participating members, and to change the date of the meeting to the period 7-9/4/1427H (corresponding to 24-26/4/2007G).
  17. Approval of the program of holding scientific courses in the Society based on the letter of His Excellency the Director of the Legal Department No. 2529050126/29 dated 12/8/1425 AH and approved by His Excellency the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research.
  18. After taking note of the circular of the Ministry of Higher Education regarding the classification of universities globally, which is carried out through criteria that reflect the quality and performance of universities, the amount of funding provided by the university for scientific research, the amount of research published in the name of the university, and the facilities and services provided by the university to its employees, in addition to adding a new criterion, which is the standard of online publishing (Web Publication), the General Assembly approves the request of the Board of Directors from the Vice President for Graduate Studies of the Association's desire to publish its publications via the Internet, and to request approval for the university to bear For the costs of design and publication submitted by one of the institutions specialized in this field.
  19. Approval of the procedures for distributing the research book of the Third Forum of Arab Geographers.
  20. Approval of scientific exchange with the German magazine Leibniz Institute to obtain the new issues of my journal:

1) Journal "Europa regional" (ISSN 0943-7142), No. 1/2004-4/2005 (we deliver in the next days) onwards. The next number (01/2006) is published in the next months.

2) German Annual of Spatial Research and Policy, Vol. 1/2006 (we deliver in the next days). The next number ist published in 2007.

In return for sending the following publications of the association: 1- Geographical research series. 2- Geographical studies series. 3- Geographical Bulletin.

  1. Blessing the efforts of the Board of Directors to communicate with the members of the Association and visitors to the Association's website from geographers and those interested, as the Board of Directors added a page for opinion and inquiry on the site and the Association's e-mail for the year 1427/1429 AH received (184) inquiries, an increase of (64) inquiries about the total number of the year 1426/1427 AH, and (94) inquiries that need responses were answered. Also, (2109) consignments were exported and sent to the members of the association and the relevant authorities.
  2. The General Assembly appreciated the efforts of participating in many local and international exhibitions and events as follows:

A- The participation of the Society in the exhibition of the College of Arts on the occasion of the celebration of King Saud University fifty years of its establishment.

B- The participation of the Society in the Riyadh International Book Fair at the pavilion of King Saud University on 23 Muharram - 2 Safar 1427 AH.

C- The participation of the Society in the book fair held on the occasion of the Fourth Forum of Arab Geographers in Rabat (Kingdom of Morocco), during the period 11-13 Shawwal 1427 AH corresponding to (2-4 November 2006).

  1. Approval of the report of the participation of the Saudi Geographical Society in the Fourth Forum of Arab Geographers held at Mohammed V University in Rabat (Agdal), Kingdom of Morocco during the period 2-5 November 2006, and requested that a copy of the report and recommendations be sent to the departments of geography in the universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  2. Briefing on the cultural program (public lectures and panel discussions) carried out during the past year.
  3. Approval of the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Saudi Geographical Society and the International Geographical Union, and the Society was represented in the signing by: the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shawqi bin Ibrahim Makki, and the International Geographical Union was represented by Prof. Dr. Adalberto Valleja, in two versions, English and Arabic, according to the recommendation of the Vice President of King Saud University for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research based on the explanation of the university's legal advisor.
  4. Approval of the rules and name of the Al-Idrisi Award for Geographical Excellence, which was approved by the General Assembly (23) on 2/3/1428 AH.
  5. 17 new members have been approved for joining the association.
  6. Approval of the content of the proposal submitted by Dr. Bahjat Muhammad Muhammad, at the Fifth Forum of Arab Geographers in Kuwait to establish the Saudi Geographical Society a website on the Internet in the name of "Arab Geographers", because of the Society's good experience in building and managing sites, and the Society's possession of data related to Arab geographers, and it is also proposed that the site include scientific pages, forums, etc. Supporting the development of the "Arab Geographers Base" link on the Society's website, and writing to Arab geographical societies to urge them to coordinate with the Association in order to develop the link currently on the site.

 

Recommendations of the Twenty-fourth General Assembly (held on 11/3/1429, Intercontinental Hotel in Al-Ahsa, hosted by Imam University in Al-Ahsa):

  1. Approval of the administrative report for the year 1428 AH / 1429 AH approved by the office of Mahmoud Al-Sabban as a legal auditor.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1428 AH.
  3. Approving the distribution of tasks to the Board of Directors in its new session.
  4. Approving the appointment of a new coordinator for the association in Jeddah.
  5. Approval of the report of the Society's participation in the second meeting of the Geographical Society of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
  6. Approving the proposal of Dr. Ibrahim Al-Taif Ali on allocating one of the Arab geographical conferences to discuss the issue of focusing on mechanisms and techniques without geographical issues and topics, while modifying some axes to suit the objectives, and addressing the Kuwait Geographical Society by proposing to add an axis in the Fifth Forum for Arab Geographers under the name "Towards a geographical methodology in light of modern technologies".
  7. Approval of the recommendations of the meeting of the Committee on Drylands, Man and Environment of the International Geographical Union and a panel discussion held in Riyadh during the period 7-9/4/1428 AH entitled: "Drylands, Man and the Environment: Obstacles and Development", and work to implement them.
  8. Approval of the report of the editorial board of the Arab Journal of Geographic Information Systems, the restructuring of the editorial board for a new term for a period of two years, and the approval of the final version of the contract to be signed with the Agency of the Present Era for Advertising and Media to assume the responsibilities of issuing the Arab Journal of Geographic Information Systems issued by the Association.
  9. Approval of the report of the editorial board of the series "Geographical Research" and "Geographical Studies", and the renewal of the body for a future session for a period of two years.
  10. Approval of the report of the Association's organization of a training course for beginners in geographic information systems (GIS), with an emphasis on continuing to hold and intensify beginner and advanced scientific courses in geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) during the coming period and authorizing the Chairman of the Board of Directors to negotiate with the United Gulf Company for Training and Administrative Development on cooperation with the Association in holding courses, and also approved the fees of courses for individuals, students and institutions, as well as the basis for distributing a return Training courses.
  11. Approval of the theme of Al-Idrisi Award for Geographical Excellence for the year 1428/1429 AH on "Water Properties in Water Drainage Basins in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".
  12. Approval of the apology for printing the book of the scientific meeting accompanying the 23rd General Assembly entitled: "Tourism in the Hail Region: A Future Vision", because there is not enough research that the participants in the meeting wish to publish, and a letter of thanks is sent to the Teachers College in Hail for its readiness to print the book.
  13. Approving the decision to reconstitute the specialized groups in the Association, and approving the rules for preparing reports of the specialized groups in the Association.
  14. Approval of the apology for the project submitted by Prof. Dr. Fadl bin Ammar Al-Ammari from the Department of Arabic Language at the Faculty of Arts at King Saud University, about the adoption of the Society project "Encyclopedia of Places in Ancient Arabic Poetry in the Arabian Peninsula (anciently) Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (recently), and that the possible support in the Society is the possibility of publishing the research within its publications after taking the procedures followed for publication in the Association.
  15. Approval of the report prepared by Eng. Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Jutaili, member of the Society on the trip of the Saudi Geographical Society to the Republic of Yemen, which was carried out during the period 11-15/11/1428 AH.
  16. Approval of granting Dr. Qaid bin Ali Al-Jamra honorary membership in the Society for his distinguished efforts in the success of the Society's trip to the Republic of Yemen.
  17. Approval of the selection of Al-Jouf region for the next scientific trip of the Saudi Geographical Society, provided that the scientific trip will be in the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah 1429 AH or Rabi' al-Awwal of the year 1430 AH, as well as approval of the trip fees.

Approval of the accession of 18 new members to the Society, and based on Article VI "Termination of Membership", paragraph (2) of the rules governing scientific societies in Saudi universities, which states: "Membership in the Society ends if the annual subscription is not paid after one year of its entitlement", and accordingly it was decided to terminate the membership of members who have not paid the subscription since the year 1426 AH and before in accordance with the procedures of the said article. The General Assembly approved the proposal of the Board of Directors to amend the subscription fees in the Assembly to (300 riyals) annually, and (1200 riyals) for a period of five years (for active membership).
  19. Approval of the approval of the new design of the membership card of the Saudi Geographical Society, with the addition of the Society's website and membership privileges on the back of the card. These decisions have been applied to all membership cards issued by the Society since 15/9/1428 AH.
  20. Approval of the participation of the Society in the Fifth Forum of Arab Geographers, which will be held in Kuwait City during the year 2008, and the proposal of the Saudi Geographical Society to choose the date of 4-6 November 2008, because it is more suitable for Saudi geographers relative to the end of the first semester, and the addition of an axis entitled "Islamic rooting for sustainable development", and holding a panel discussion to follow up the recommendations of the Fourth Forum for Arab Geographers, and holding a panel discussion to establish a general secretariat for the Forum of Arab Geographers (prepared a working paper on the project of the Secretariat of Arab Geographical Forums from the Geographical Society Saudi Arabia), and proposing to add a hub to the themes of the Fifth Forum of Arab Geographers under the name "Towards a geographical methodology in light of modern technologies".
  21. Taking note of the steps taken to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Association and the Ministry of Education on the coordination of the International Geographical Olympiad to be held in Tunisia 2008, and approving the memorandum, but due to the desire of the representatives of the Ministry to bear the expenses of some training items, and the travel of members accompanying the students, and the Association's clarification of its point of view on the impossibility, the Association did not receive any responses on this point of view, which hindered the participation of the Association in the implementation or supervision of the Olympiad as was done in 2006.
  22. Approval of the printing of the book "AlUla: The Bride of the Mountains and the Cradle of Civilizations" within the series "Books on Cities and Countryside in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  23. Approval of the apology to Dr. Ahmed bin Abdel Fattah Nada, for participating in a research on the city of Hafr Al-Batin and its villages and desertions in the series "Books on Cities and Countryside in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia", or for a research entitled: "um Raqiba and its role in activating desert tourism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Camel Mazayin Festival)", and proposing another area such as the site of "Al-Disa" in the Tabuk region, and approving the design of a questionnaire that includes the region, three proposed cities, and three proposed villages according to the priority, to be distributed during The next general assembly meeting on the members of the association to request their contribution in identifying cities and villages that can be studied within the series and have an appeal to the reader.

Recommendations of the Twenty-fifth General Assembly (held on 21/3/1430 AH, King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative report for the year 1429 AH / 1430 AH approved by the office of Mahmoud Al-Sabban as a legal auditor.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1429 AH.
  3. Holding the twenty-fifth General Assembly, coinciding with the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the first General Assembly of the Assembly in Riyadh, and this meeting is accompanied by many activities, on top of which is a panel discussion entitled: "A Quarter of a Century of Giving".
  4. Issuing a special issue of the geographical bulletin reviewing the march of the association during a quarter of a century, and assigning Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Hamid Mukhashab to write in a fixed paragraph entitled: Reading from a book.
  5. Determining the criterion for selecting the selected places for the series of "Cities and Countryside Books in the Kingdom of Arabia" by distinguishing the place with natural geographical characteristics (climate, geological and geomorphological characteristics, botanical characteristics) and human and cultural characteristics (tourism, archeology, civilization, population, ..).

  8. Apologies for holding a scientific meeting of the association in the city of Arar in the northern region for the time being given that the relevant activities of the association are scheduled for the next period of time, and the region will be placed in the schedule that will be prepared in the future hopefully.

  10. Approval of the proposed general rules of the General Secretariat of the Forum of Arab Geographers, taking the necessary measures to submit them to the fifth meeting of Arab geographers to be held in the State of Kuwait in 2009. God willing.
  11. Approval of the offer of the Computer Technology Corporation regarding the conversion of hard copies of the Association's publications to electronic copies (PDF).

The General Assembly blessed the participation of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shawky bin Ibrahim Makki, Chairman of the Board of Directors, with a working paper in the Forum of Scientific Societies entitled: "Scientific Societies: Ambitions and Obstacles: The Case of King Saud University" based on the letter received from the supervisor of the Department of International Cooperation and Scientific Societies regarding the holding of the Forum of Scientific Societies in Saudi Universities and the Association's writing to participate with a working paper in the forum.
  21. Forming a working team from the Geographical Places Unit of the Society, King Abdulaziz House and the relevant authorities to start implementing the encyclopedia of places project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  22. Approval of granting His Excellency Prof. Dr. Sulaiman bin Abdullah Aba Al-Khail, Director of Al-Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, honorary membership in the Association.
  23. The General Assembly was briefed on the letters of appreciation received from His Excellency the Rector of King Saud University to the Society for holding training courses in geographic information systems and remote sensing, and scientific panel discussions, and the meeting was also informed of the response of the Chairman of the Board of Directors to that with a letter of thanks for the support and sponsorship of the Association and its activities in the speech of His Excellency the Director.

Recommendations of the Twenty-sixth General Assembly (held on 15/4/1431 AH, at the Movenpick Hotel in Qassim, hosted by Qassim University):

  1. Approval of the administrative report for the year 1430 AH / 1431 AH approved by the office of Mahmoud Al-Sabban, a legal auditor.
  2. Approval of the financial report of the Society for the year 1430 AH.
  3. Based on the notes contained in the book "Geographical Trends for the Publications of the Saudi Geographical Society" prepared by His Excellency Prof. Dr. Nasser bin Abdullah Al-Saleh, and published by the Society on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the holding of the first General Assembly of the Society. After reviewing the recommendations contained in the book, the following decision was taken: Researchers are written on topics that have not been written on previously such as geographical thought (if the necessary support is available).
  4. Approval of the printing of the research "Paragraph: The resort of the Medina region" submitted by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shawky bin Ibrahim Makki, for publication within the series of books of cities and countryside in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia., and to take the necessary measures to publish the research within the series.
  5. Apologies for Prof. Dr. Ghazi Falah for supporting and sponsoring the holding of an international conference in Istanbul, Turkey during the year 2010 centered on "the meeting of civilizations, especially the meeting of Europe with the Islamic world", because the main themes of the conference are outside the interests of the Saudi Geographical Society, and the lack of material capabilities of the Society at the present time to sponsor the conference.
  6. Prof. Dr. Asaad bin Suleiman Abdo thanked Abdo for preparing, producing and directing the documentary film ""The Saudi Geographical Society: A Success Story", and agreeing to download the film on YouTube on the Saudi Geographical Society website, and copying (500) CDs of the film and distributing some of them to the participants in the scientific meeting accompanying the 26th General Assembly at Qassim University.
  7. Taking note of the letter received by His Excellency the Rector of King Saud University to the Society for holding training courses aimed at identifying the basic principles of geographic information systems and their uses, and creating and editing databases.
  8. The Scientific Society was informed of the efforts of the members of the Board of Directors to search for supporters for the Gazetteer of Geographical Terms, and to meet Sheikh Abdullah Bugshan, who welcomed the support of the Society and studied the projects submitted to him to be supported, while continuing to find supporters for the project.
  9. Approving the participation of the Society in the Sixth Forum of Arab Geographers to be held in Damascus in 2001, and recommending the addition of a theme entitled: "Decision-making from a geographical perspective".
  10. Approval to add a summary only in Arabic and English for the scientific theses that are discussed in the departments of geography in the Kingdom's universities, and to add a link to universities, King Fahd Library or databases at the King Faisal Center for Research and Studies for those who want to view the full thesis.
  11. Approval of withholding the Al-Idrisi Award for Geographical Excellence for the year 1431 AH for not completing the conditions of the award in the submitted research.
  12. Approval of the report of the editorial board of the series "Geographical Research" and "Geographical Studies", and the renewal of the members of the editorial board for a period of two years as of 21/12/1430 AH.
  13. Approval of the report of the editorial board of the Arab Journal of Geographic Information Systems, and renewal of the members of the editorial board for a period of two years starting from 24/5/1430 AH.
  14. Approval of the apology of Mr. Ibrahim bin Abdullah Al-Fayrouz, member of the Association, for being assigned as coordinator of the Association in the Qassim region.
  15. After reviewing the decision of the Board of Directors on the letter received from Dr. Anbara bint Khamis bin Bilal, member of the Board of Directors, and her proposal to consider what was stated in Article V of the basic rules of scientific societies in Saudi universities regarding honorary membership and the conditions for granting their membership, and its proposal to determine the quality and amount of contributions made by the honorary member, the General Assembly approved the decision of the Board of Directors to abide by the basic rules governing scientific societies in Saudi universities and keep the door open according to the ability of everyone who supports the association, due to the lack of supporters, There is no need to differentiate between them.
  16. Approval of Dr. Iyad bin Hakam Fadda to provide a specialized scientific lecture on geomatics  in coordination with the Department of Geography at King Saud University in the hall of the Deanship of E-Learning to be transferred to the female branch in Ulaishah, and the nomination of Dr. Iyad bin Hakam Fadda, Dr. Ali bin Abdullah Al-Dosari from the Department of Geography at King Saud University, and Dr. Muhammad bin Awad Al-Omari, from the Department of Geography at King Abdulaziz University, to participate in a workshop in geomatics applications on Margin of the 26th meeting of the Saudi Geographical Society held at Qassim University during the period 14-16/4/1431 AH (corresponding to 30/3-1/4/2010 AD).
  17. Approval of the administrative and scientific reports on the trip of the Saudi Geographical Society to Socotra and Hadhramaut in the Republic of Yemen: And on the subject of the competition for the best picture of the participants in the trip of Socotra and Hadhramaut in the Republic of Yemen, which was implemented by the Society during the period 13-17/11/1430 AH, and the approval of providing a prize to the first winner free participation in the Society for a year, and the second winner: a copy of the research book of the Third Forum for Arab Geographers, and the winning pictures of the first and second prizes are printed on certificates distributed to the participants in the trip.
  18. In order to activate the role of students in supporting the scientific process, it is circulated to the departments of geography by nominating a distinguished male or female student (bachelor's degree) to participate in the annual meetings, starting from the meeting (26) of the Saudi Geographical Society, which will be held at Qassim University during the period 14-16/4/1431 AH (corresponding to 30/3-1/4/2010 AD), and the selection is made from among the candidates the appropriate number to host them by the association, provided that the association bears the costs of reduced travel tickets for students.
  19. Approving cooperation with the Water Conversion Corporation in the water pipeline project from Ras Al-Zour to Riyadh by providing it with information on maps and required information about other necessary equipment at a specific financial cost.
  20. Approving the publication of the geography cube developed by the Herodot3 Foundation after translating and publishing it through the association's website, as this will achieve user interaction and the dissemination of geographical culture The proposal and authorizing the Chairman of the Board of Directors to make the necessary contacts with Herodot3  to know the requirements for obtaining the right to translate and publish on the association's website. 
  21. The General Assembly blessed the efforts of the General Secretariat of the seminars of the departments of geography after the apology of the Department of Social Sciences at Qassim University and the Department of Geography at King Abdulaziz University, and the approval of the Department of Social Sciences to host the tenth symposium for geography departments in 1432 AH, and urged the General Secretariat to coordinate with Jazan University to determine the topic of the symposium and its axes and complete the procedures for holding the symposium.
  22. The General Assembly blessed the efforts of the Board of Directors in forming a committee to take the necessary action regarding the letter received from Dr. Othman bin Ali Al-Zamil, Director General of Curricula at the Ministry of Education, and in continuation of the cooperation and partnership between the Society and the Ministry, and his request to report on notes, views and proposals that contribute to the development of geography courses in public education, the comprehensive project and the secondary education system (courses system).
  23. The General Assembly valued the participation in the exhibition accompanying the Fifth Forum of Arab Geographers, which was held in the State of Kuwait during the period 5-7/4/2009, and in the exhibition accompanying the activities of the preparatory meeting for the first scientific conference for male and female students of higher education - the research conference of male and female students of King Saud University 1430 AH previously in the period 23-24/12/1430 AH, and in the exhibition accompanying the Fifth National Forum for Geographic Information Systems in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which will be held during the period 12-14/5/1431 AH (26-28/4/2010 AD) at the Meridian Hotel in Al-Khobar in the Eastern Province.  In the exhibition accompanying the activities of the geographical day to be held by the Department of Geography at King Saud University on Sunday 25/5/1431 AH (corresponding to 9/5/2010 AD).
  24. Taking note of what was issued by a series of geographical research for the year 1430/1431 AH, number (3) research, and a series of geographical studies, number (3) research, and the electronic version of issue (2), volume (2) of the Arab Journal of Geographic Information Systems, and issues 1, 2 of the geographical bulletin for the year 1430/1431 AH.
  25. Taking note of the activities of the scientific meetings for the past year, which amounted to 12 activities, including public lectures, panel discussions and training courses, and urging the continuation of this important activity.
  26. Approval of the efforts of the Board of Directors on the employment of geography graduates by holding a meeting with the Advisor for Classification and Employment Affairs at the Ministry of Civil Service on the fields of work available in the civil service for graduates of geography departments in its various specialties, the Society has received a letter from the Ministry of Civil Service thanking the Association for continuous communication with the Ministry in everything that would help determine the appropriate areas of work for geography specialties, as well as for submitting a letter to His Excellency the Minister of Commerce regarding liberal professions that include seven professions The association requested the addition of the profession of geoenvironmental consulting to the liberal professions approved by the Ministry of Commerce. After many correspondences and studies, the Ministry of Commerce agreed to add the profession of environmental geographical consulting to the list of liberal professions, in which the applicant for the job is required to have a qualification in geography.
  27. The General Assembly blessed the efforts to communicate with dignitaries and officials in the Kingdom, namely: Sheikh Engineer Abdullah Bugshan on 3/2/1431 AH, and an attempt to meet His Excellency Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Anqari - Minister of Higher Education - and due to His Excellency's preoccupation, efforts are still continuing to meet him.
  28. Taking note of the increase in requests for opinion and inquiries on the Society's e-mail and the mail issued by the Association compared to previous years, where (420) requests and inquiries from the Society arrived in the Society's e-mail, and (125) letters were received from the International Geographical Union that were circulated through the Association's website or forwarded messages to members. The Society exported (4450) e-mails, and (3086) transactions by mail during the past year. And (15408) SMS via mobile phone.
  29. Approval of the approval of honoring Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Humaidi (may God have mercy on him), from the Department of Geography at Qassim University at the 26th General Assembly meeting of the Saudi Geographical Society.
  30. Forming a new board of directors in accordance with the new regulations of the Department of International Cooperation and Scientific Societies at King Saud University for a new term of three years.

Recommendations of the Twenty-seventh General Assembly (held on 12/6/1432 AH, King Saud University):

  1. Approval of the administrative report for the year 1431 AH / 1432 AH.
  2. Approval of the financial report for the year 1431H.
  3. Approval of the recommendation of the Board of Directors regarding the General Assembly Resolution (26) on the writing of researchers in the topics of urban, political, military, historical, and regional geography, which were not written about in the series of geographical research and geographical studies issued by the Association, by waiting in writing researchers because of the additional material costs that this entails on the Association, which has not yet received any financial support from the university, and proposing to hold forums and seminars on the above topics in cooperation with the relevant authorities.
  4. Approval of the nomination of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shawky bin Ibrahim Makki, Chairman of the Board of Directors, to participate in a working paper in the Sixth Forum of Arab Geographers, which will be held by the Syrian Geographical Society in 2011, and the nomination of Dr. Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al-Daghiri to participate in the panel discussion, and approval of the participation of the Saudi Geographical Society in the exhibition accompanying the Sixth Forum of Arab Geographers.
  5. Approval of the printing of the book "Al-Disa: A Green Oasis in the middle of the desert in the Tabuk region" prepared by Dr. Ahmed bin Abdel Fattah Nada, after obtaining support for printing from the honorary member of the association, Dr. Anbara bint Khamis Bilal.
  6. Approval of the scientific program for the year 1431/1432 AH. It includes 11 public lectures, panel discussions and training courses.   
  7. Approval of the apology of Prof. Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Al-Qabbani for chairing the specialized group for population and urban studies at the Saudi Geographical Society, and the nomination of Dr. Khalid bin Ateeq Al-Pharmacist, member of the Society and faculty member at Taibah University, to head the specialized group for population and urban studies at the Saudi Geographical Society.
  8. After many attempts to develop a list of cities and villages to write about in the "Cities and Countryside Series in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia", the General Assembly approved the recommendation of the Board of Directors to leave the choice of cities and villages to the desire of researchers due to the difficulty of selection and changing the names of villages from time to period.
  9. Approval of studying the possibility of issuing an electronic cultural magazine on the association's website, and in the event of its success, the issuance of paper copies of the magazine can be studied, with the search for supporters and financiers of the magazine, and work to issue the geographical bulletin electronically.
  10. Approval of the publication of the research: "Research and Studies of the Society from 1409-1429 AH" prepared by graduate students in the Department of Geography at Imam University within the issues of the geographical bulletin.
  11. Approving the joining of a student representative to the meetings of the Board of Directors, provided that he is a member of the Association, and if the student is under the bachelor's degree, he is treated as an associate member. If the student holds a bachelor's degree, he has all the rights of an active member.
  12. Approval of the topics of the Al-Idrisi Award for Geographical Excellence for the next three years, which are as follows: a- The theme of the year 1432 AH: the role of geographical factors in urban planning; b- The theme of the year 1433 AH: Dust storms: dangers and solutions; C- The theme of the year 1434 AH: Municipal elections. As a result of the opinions of the judges, the award for the year 1432 AH is withheld.
  13. Approval of the production of the second part of the film: The Saudi Geographical Society: A Success Story, and the assignment of: His Excellency Prof. Nasser bin Abdullah Al-Saleh and Prof. Muhammad Shawqi bin Ibrahim Makki, preparing the scientific material for the production of the film.
  14. Approval of the memorandum of understanding between the Saudi Geographical Society and the Knowledge World Center regarding granting the Center the right to benefit from the presentation and use of the Arab Journal of Geographic Information Systems, a series of geographical research and a series of geographical studies, which are issued by the Saudi Geographical Society electronically and non-exclusively, and make them available for circulation through the database, in exchange for paying a sum of money to the Society equivalent to (20%) of the results of the revenues achieved by the database.
  15. Approval of the amendment of the two paragraphs of the rules of publication in scientific series issued by the Saudi Geographical Society to become as follows:

(4) The research is submitted in digital form (on a  CD) printed in  MS WORD  in Windows environments, and leaves one and a half spaces between each line and another in Traditional Arabic  font for the body and  Monotype Koufi  font for titles, and 16 white font for the body and 12 white for the margins (black font for Quranic verses and hadiths), and attached with three copies printed on A4 size paper, taking into account that the copies are on one side, and the maximum limit for the search is [75] pages, and the minimum is [15] pages.

(6) It shall be taken into account that the forms shall be presented in digital form that shall be read and displayed by computer, or that they shall be drawn in Chinese ink on paper (Kalk) size 12×18 cm, and the originals of the forms shall be attached to the research, provided that the form is fully clear, and an original and not a picture.

  1. Singapore's first Prime Minister, Mr. Lee Ho, has been approved for the Lee Kuan World Cities Award, for his instrumental role in developing Singapore into a distinctive, clean and green garden city in a short period of a few decades and under his leadership. This role has helped to adopt a land use and transport strategy, environmental policies and programmes to develop Singapore into a livable city with a quality environment linked to a high standard of living, along with growth.
  2. Approval of the Society's participation in the first forum of scientific societies at King Saud University under the title: "Scientific Future Vision and Targeted Strategic Outputs", during the period 6-7/2/1432 AH, and approval of the participation report and its recommendations.
  3. Taking note of the decision of the Scientific Committee of the Tenth Symposium of the Departments of Geography in the Universities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to postpone the symposium to the period 26-28/12/1432 AH (corresponding to 22-24/11/2011 AD), to complete the research participating in the symposium and give more time to apply to participate in research in the symposium activities.
  4. Taking note of the request of Taibah University to host the eleventh symposium of the departments of geography in the Kingdom's universities in the month of Muharram in 1435 AH.
  5. The General Assembly was informed of the offer submitted by Codes Net regarding raising the translation of the geography cube website to the Internet, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shawky bin Ibrahim Makki, Chairman of the Board of Directors, was authorized to follow up the subject and search for a financier and supporter of the site, and to obtain the approval of the owner of the property right to choose one of the solutions to upload the Arabic version on Photoshop.  
  6. Approval of the printing of the paragraph book: Medina Resort, which is the second edition of the series of cities and countryside in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued by the Association and take the necessary measures to publish the book.
  7. Approval of the apology of Prof. Abdullah bin Suleiman Al-Hadithi, from the membership of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Geographical Society, and the nomination of Mr. Muhammad bin Ahmed Al-Rashed, for membership of the Board of Directors, based on the results of the proceedings of the elections of the Board of Directors of the fourteenth Saudi Geographical Society on 14/4/1431 AH. as a first reserve.
  8. Approval of the report of the editorial board of the Arab Journal of Geographic Information Systems on its efforts during the past period 23/5/1430 AH to 23/5/1432 AH, and the application of the criteria of heads of scientific journals issued by the Department of International Cooperation and Scientific Societies to nominate a new editorial chairman.
  9. Approval of the right to translate the "Geography Teacher Magazine", published by Routledge  and supervised by the National Board of Geography Education in the United States of America, which is concerned with geography and geography teaching skills, highlighting the branches of human geography and physical geography.
  10. Approval of the project of transforming the Kingdom's smart map (Qibla direction) into an electronic product, which was completed by a member of the association, Mr. Hadi bin Abdullah Al-Yami, in coordination with the Riyadh Technology Incubator at King Saud University.
  11. Approval to resume the search for those who support the production of the pocket map.
  12. Approving the donations made to the Society during the years 1431 and 1432 AH.
  13. Approval of the scientific trip to be undertaken to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan during the period -22/11/1432 AH (corresponding to 17-20/10/2011 AD), and the program of the trip.
  14. Approval of the participation of the Saudi Geographical Society in the 32nd International Geographical Union Conference, which will be held in Cologne, Germany during the period 26-30/8/2012, and approval of the assignment of Prof. Dr. Ali bin Muhammad Shaiban Al-Arishi to form a working group for the participation of the Society in the 32nd International Conference of the International Geographical Union with a working paper entitled: "The role of the Saudi Geographical Society in publishing geographical studies that are concerned with the application of modern technologies in geography in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".
  15. Approval of collecting research and articles published in the series of geographical research and the geographical bulletin on scientific research methods by Prof. Dr. Yahya bin Muhammad Sheikh Abu Al-Khair in one book for the benefit of students.
  16. The General Assembly blessed the participation in the exhibitions of: a- The exhibition accompanying the Fifth Forum for Geographic Information Systems held in the city of Khobar on 12-14/5/1431 AH; b- Participation in the exhibition accompanying the geographical day held by the Department of Geography at King Saud University on 25/5/1431 AH; C- Participation in the exhibition accompanying the "Child Friendly Environment" day, which was held in the city of Alhokair Land in Riyadh, 10/6/1431 AH; d- Participation in the exhibition accompanying the first forum of scientific societies at King Saud University 6-7/2/1432 AH.
  17. The General Assembly was informed of the issuance of (3) research papers on a series of geographical research for the year 1431/1432 AH, and a series of geographical studies number (2) research, and electronic copies of issue (1,2) volume (3) of the Arab Journal of Geographic Information Systems, and issue 1, 2 of the geographical bulletin for the year 1431/1432 AH, and issue No. (2) of the series of cities and countryside in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  18. The General Assembly was informed of requests for opinion and inquiries on the association's e-mail and the mail issued by the association, where (539) requests and inquiries from the association arrived in the association's e-mail, and the association exported (5610) e-mail messages, and (703) transactions by mail during the past year. And (5480) SMS via mobile phone. The Society received 90 letters from the International Geographical Union until 27/3/2011, and they were answered or circulated to the geographers of the members of the Society.33-  Approval of the approval of the holding of the General Assembly (28) of the Saudi Geographical Society in the 
    Al-Baha region, and the subject of the accompanying scientific meeting: "Development of the Saudi countryside", and holding a panel discussion on specialized groups in the Saudi Geographical Society in which each of the following participates:      Prof. Mohammed Shawky bin Ibrahim Makki, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Geographical Society, and Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Hamid Mukhashab, member of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Geographical Society, and head of the Studies and Training Unit of the Society.

Recommendations of the Twenty-eighth General Assembly (held on 14/4/1432 AH, at Prince Faisal bin Mohammed Hall at the Department of Education in Al-Baha Region):

  1. Approval of the administrative report for the year 1432/1433 AH.
  2. Approval of the annual financial report of the Society for the year 1432 AH.
  3. Approval of the printing of (1000) copies of the book "Abdullah bin Yusuf Al-Ghunaim - a geographer from the Arabian Peninsula" by Prof. Dr. Rashoud bin Muhammad Al-Khorayef.
  4. Approval of the renewal of the editorial board of a series of geographical research and a series of geographical studies for a period of (4) years starting from the date of 21/12/1432 AH and submitting this to the Department of International Cooperation and Scientific Societies for approval.
  5. Approval of participation in the Second Forum of Scientific Societies at King Saud University and the accompanying exhibition.
  6. Approval of the amendment of the mission and vision as follows:

Mission of the Saudi Geographical Society: Activating national geographical expertise within a tight institutional framework, in a way that contributes to geographical scientific progress and achieving environmental and civilizational balance, strengthening societal and development contributions through educational, research, advisory and training activities in various geographical fields and techniques, contributing to the self-development of the expertise of the Society's employees and expanding the scope of their actual contributions according to the highest standards within the framework of the Islamic faith and Arab and Islamic heritage, and strengthening channels of cooperation and partnership nationally, regionally and internationally.

Vision of the Saudi Geographical Society: Excellence in deepening and expanding geographical knowledge among specialists and members of society, and activating its applications in the Saudi and international developmental, environmental and civilizational space.

  1. Approval of the Society's participation in the Society's participation in the activities of Medina as the Capital of Islamic Culture for the year 2013.
  2. Approval of the establishment of a corner for the Saudi Geographical Society in the preparatory year at King Saud University in the geography corner in the preparatory year building during the period 17-18/5/1433 AH at the headquarters of the preparatory year for humanitarian colleges.   
  3. Approval that the next scientific trip of the association to the Mahd Al-Dhahab area.
  4. The association encourages its members to enrich the Wikipedia site with accurate geographical information about the geography of the Kingdom.

Second: Recommendations of the scientific meetings of the Saudi Geographical Society:

Recommendations of the dialogue accompanying the Sixth General Assembly of the Saudi Geographical Society: "Geography Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" on 29/10/1410 AH.

  1. Subjecting geographical books to experimentation and arbitration before adopting and circulating them in line with the educational policy for the different stages of education.
  2. Attention to giving the teacher the general and specific objectives of the courses he teaches and writing these goals in textbooks, provided that the teachers have the opportunity to participate in the preparation of curricula and the preparation of textbooks or enlightened by their opinions.
  3. Availability of specific criteria in the prescribed books, including: 

A- Modernity of information.

B- Integrity of language and style in line with the educational stage.

c. It is free from anything contrary to the teachings of the Islamic religion.

  1. Paying attention to the texts of geographical books so that they give students the opportunity to think and address them so that the desired interaction between students and the texts of the textbooks is carried out so that these texts contribute to the development of the student's personality and confirm the desired directions.
  2. The necessity of linking geography courses with the general development plan of the state and conscious interaction with global civilizational developments as it does not contradict and contradict Islamic values.
  3. The need to include the elements of the curriculum and textbooks to link the student with his local environment through exploratory field trips and the need to preserve and protect this environment.
  4. The necessity of including topics related to cartography and reading skills in the general education curriculum in the general education stages.
  5. Attention to the maps of textbooks, taking into account the compatibility between the information contained in the text and the figures shown, provided that the map includes the scale of the drawing towards the north, degrees of longitude and longitude, the key and symbols and the signature of the information in the correct places.
  6. The need to expedite the issuance of a Saudi school atlas linked to geographical courses in order to appoint both the teacher and the student in the educational process.
  7. Overcoming the difficulties faced by female researchers, especially with regard to attendance at information and making the most of the capabilities available in libraries, laboratories and laboratories.
  8. The Board of Directors of the Society is authorized to select the rapporteurs of the working committees on the subject of "Teaching Geography in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" for the next year 1411 AH.

Panel discussion: Setting Place Names in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (accompanying the Eleventh General Assembly):

  1. Establishing a specialized unit for places and geographical names in the Saudi Geographical Society.
  2. Forming a national committee concerned with the names and locations of places in which the Saudi Geographical Society, the departments of geography and archeology in the Kingdom's universities, the Military Survey Department, and the Ministry of Education are represented, provided that the committee prepares an integrated national program to be implemented in stages.

 

Panel discussion: Remote sensing and its geographical applications in land use (accompanying the Fourteenth General Assembly).

  1. Conceptualize the participation of geography departments with other scientific departments in the service of geography and modern technologies.
  2. Directing graduate students to use modern technologies, and the participation of graduate students with the competent authorities in the use of modern technologies.
  3. Allocate more time for the accompanying dialogue or put it after lunch.
  4. Adopting a sand survey proposal in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to be submitted to King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) for a decision from the competent person.
  5. The possibility of submitting a proposal through the Saudi Geographical Society to address Arab satellite institutions to allocate part of their activities to remote sensing.

Recommendations of the Scientific Meeting: Field Documentation of the Invasion of Badr

The Saudi Geographical Society in cooperation with the Center for Research and Studies of Medina during the period 12-14/2/1426 AH at King Abdulaziz Public Library in Madinah

First: Submitting a cable to His Royal Highness Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Governor of Madinah Region and Chairman of the Board of the Madinah Research and Studies Center, expressing sincere thanks, gratitude and appreciation to His Highness for his patronage and support.

Second: Submit a cable of thanks and appreciation to the Director General of the King Abdulaziz Library in Madinah for hosting the symposium sessions on its first day, and for his contribution to the success of its work.

Third: Submit a request to the competent authorities to preserve the archaeological sites associated with the invasion, and protect them from encroachments and urban sprawl.

Fourth: Submit a request to the competent authorities to preserve the names of landmarks and places as mentioned in documented historical sources, and not to allow them to be changed to new names.

Fifth: Placing indicative signs in more than one language in the main sites associated with the invasion, especially the landing sites of armies, the battle site, and the cemetery of the martyrs, and adding a board with the names of the martyrs in several languages.

Sixth: Submit a request to the Supreme Commission for Tourism to pay attention to the Prophet's road to Badr and place indicative signs at the landmarks mentioned in the documented historical sources, so that visitors can learn about them and see the details of this great historical event and its landmarks.

Seventh: Recommending the relevant cultural authorities to study and document the route taken by Abu Sufyan's convoy upon its return from the Levant.

Eighth: Calling on the  competent authorities to establish a comprehensive database of the Prophet's biography that includes accurate details of the geographical features mentioned by the documented sources and all related historical, geological and other studies.

Ninth: Inviting the relevant cultural authorities and specialized researchers to cooperate with the King Abdulaziz Foundation to issue an atlas of the Prophet's biography.

Tenth: Inviting cultural bodies with religious, historical, geographical and geological disciplines to conduct joint in-depth systematic studies to serve and disseminate the Prophet's biography.

Eleventh: Requesting the competent authorities to correct the name of Badr City in the maps  where it was mentioned in the name of (Badr Haneen), and to delete the word ((nostalgia)) from it to preserve the historical name of the site and the city, and to circulate this to the authorities related to maps locally and internationally.

Twelfth: Inviting specialists in the study of comparative religions to follow the instructions related to the Battle of Badr, and any matters related to the Prophet's biography in general, found in previous religious books, especially the Gospels.

Thirteenth: Publishing research, maps, discussions and interventions submitted to the symposium or during it in a special issue, to be a documentary reference for the Battle of Badr.

Fourteenth: Calling for seminars similar to other events of the Prophet's biography, documenting them in the field, and publishing the results of documentation.

Recommendations of the Scientific Meeting: Tourism in the Hail Region: A Future Vision

Held in the meeting hall of Al-Magwah Park in Hail, which was organized by the Saudi Geographical Society in cooperation with the Teachers College in Hail

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the most honorable of the prophets and messengers, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon all his family and companions.

Based on the approval of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Abdul Mohsen Al Saud, Governor of Hail Region, No. 58/810/21540 dated 1/11/1427 AH, and the approval of the Ministry of Education No. 434/426 dated 17/2/1426 AH, a meeting was held: "Tourism in the Hail Region: A Future Vision" at the Teachers College in Hail. Invitations were extended by the Saudi Geographical Society and the Teachers College to members of the association and those interested in tourism matters to attend the meeting.

The meeting had the participation of a good number of employees of the association, the Teachers College, government institutions and private sector companies. The meeting was opened under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Abdul Mohsen Al Saud, Governor of Hail Region. The following recommendations emerged from the meeting:

  1. The participants in the meeting extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to His Royal Highness the Governor of Hail Region for the kind approval to hold the meeting in the Hail region. A telegram of thanks is recommended for this purpose.

Second: The symposium concluded with the following recommendations:

  1. The need to pay attention to planning regional development in the Hail region with more procedures, mechanisms and means to accommodate the promising tourism potential in the Hail region, whether natural, environmental or human, and to introduce these potentials locally and abroad, in coordination between the Region Council, the Hail Region Development Authority, and the Tourism Authority in the city of Hail according to geographical scientific conditions to avoid places that could pose a danger to their visitors.
  2. Encouraging the investment of the available capabilities in the Hail region as a tourist investment by attracting investors from inside and outside the region within a strategy in which priorities are determined that seek to diversify the product of tourism, cultural, historical, sports and environmental offer (especially the mountainous and desert environment).
  3. Work on the establishment of natural and heritage reserves in order to preserve the general appearance and heritage sites in the region and resettle the vital area, especially in the mountains of Aja and Salma, while activating the regulations and legislation related to the preservation of these reserves and their environments to encourage ecotourism.
  4. Motivating investors in tourism in the Hail region to adopt joint projects between the public and private sectors to reassure the private sector of its investments, and to establish projects concerned with infrastructure related to the development of tourism potentials and encourage owners of private farms and rest houses to organize them and turn them into tourist resorts without prejudice to the components of their natural environment.
  5. Activating the elements of tourist attractions for the natural and environmental geographical characteristics of the Hail region (such as Darb Zubaydah, the site of Okda, the site of Old Taba, Machar, Shuaibeen... etc) by holding cultural, sports, heritage and economic festivals and celebrations periodically to achieve the aspirations of the various segments of tourism service seekers, encouraging the participation of the public and private sectors in organizing them, and organizing tourist trips to the region during its period, taking into account in all these names that are in line with the religious values of Saudi society.
  6. Paying attention to appointing highly qualified and knowledgeable tour guides to the area to introduce it in the best way. The region's Chamber of Commerce and Industry can be invited to offer specialized courses on how to deal with tourists. Attention should also be paid to placing indicative signs in appropriate geographical locations, and attention should be paid to the production of maps that indicate tourist sites, warn against irregular use, and clarify penalties for violators, while supporting security in tourist places and working to educate and train specialized teams on tourism security.
  7. Work to raise awareness among tourists, using audio, print, visual and documentary media, to preserve natural resources and pay attention to ecotourism, as well as spreading tourism awareness among the local population to receive tourists and provide services to them and highlight the cultural heritage of the region, and to carry out research and scientific studies to analyze the behavior of the population in dealing with tourists and work to improve these behaviors.
  8. Supporting research and studies concerned with the development of tourism and encouraging the use of modern technology in these studies, and activating the role of the Saudi Geographical Society in adopting such studies for the Hail region and other regions of the Kingdom, while taking care of the environmental, social and economic dimensions of some tourism activities (such as the Hail Rally - the Great Nafud Challenge), and trying to reduce its negatives, and protect the local environment from arbitrary use (logging, soil shoveling, waste dumping, using modern means of transportation in areas not designated for frequenting).
  9. Developing means of transportation and transportation, especially to and from ecotourism and archaeological areas in the region, developing the concept of integration in transportation (comprehensive ticket), establishing rest houses, food centers and places to perform prayers in these areas, and lighting them so that tourists can stay there for a longer period even after sunset, and building information centers at the main entrances to the area.
  10. Developing integrated tourism programs among tour operators so that the program consists of a single package that includes travel, accommodation and tours. The region's Higher Tourism Authority should be invited to support integration and coordination between the various tourism sectors throughout the region, and to encourage group tourism and scientific tours.
  11. Supporting and developing small local industries to activate their role in tourism development processes in the region.
  12. Coordination with the Ministry of Civil Service to define job titles and describe them accurately in line with the tourism sector and to provide new areas of work for men and women, with a focus on the need to develop women's work in the tourism field under an independent women's sector.

Environmental Development in Al-Ahsa Governorate: Aspirations and Hopes

  6. Rapid attention to the maintenance and protection of archaeological sites as a civilized duty and tourist attraction such as Joatha Mosque, and the old port in Uqair.
  7. Establishing academic departments concerned with the environment at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University / Al-Ahsa Branch.
  8. Recommending to the Saudi Geographical Society and the seminars of the departments of geography to hold more seminars and panel discussions that devote integration and not competition between departments. This can be done by focusing each section on a specific direction in geography and not repeating the same trends in all or most geography departments.
  9. Calling for intensifying the use of modern geographical techniques in teaching geographical courses and in geographical research.
  10. Paying attention to narrowing the gap in geography education between general education and university education, and urging the Saudi Geographical Society to cooperate with the Ministry of Education in participating in the development of geography curricula in public education.
  11. The need to open higher education in geography departments to the community, create a training, operational and research partnership with the public and private sectors to serve the community, and urge in-depth studies that illustrate the contribution of the public sectors in supporting education, training and employment.
  12. Establishing central committees along with scientific committees in departments to study the content of courses and their relationship to preparing students professionally and areas of development.
  13. Reconsider the university geographical book in terms of its quality, availability and development by encouraging faculty members to co-author, which helps cooperation and increase the quality of the book.
  14. Urging ministries and governmental and non-governmental departments to be transparent in providing information and data to researchers on the number of graduates from geography departments and the number of those who could be employed and who were not able to be absorbed by the labor market, which encourages the work of scientific studies that identify trends and enable the study of capabilities and develop the qualitative capabilities of graduates.

  10. Adding a course in the geography departments about the Saudi geographical heritage.
  11. The association adopts the call for the establishment of a geographical heritage center in the Ministry of Higher Education.
  12. The association reprints the books of Dr. Hussein Bondakji
  13. Increasing the content of the geographical library in many modern topics, whether by translation or writing.
  14. Documenting all the activities of the episode in the association.
  15. A special meeting was held for the paper of Prof. Dr. Asaad bin Suleiman Abdo as the first document in the march of the association.

Recommendations of the Scientific Meeting: Regional Development in Qassim Region: For Sustainable Development

14-16 Rabi' II 1431H (30 March – 1 April 2010)

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the most honorable of the prophets and messengers, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon all his family and companions.

Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Qassim Region, and hosted by the Department of Geography at Qassim University, the Saudi Geographical Society held the scientific meeting: "Regional Development in Qassim Region: For Sustainable Development". Invitations were extended by the Saudi Geographical Society and the Department of Geography at Qassim University to members of the Society and those interested to attend the meeting.

The meeting received intensive participation from a number of employees of the association, Saudi universities, government institutions and private sector companies. The meeting was opened under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh Region, and the following recommendations emerged from the meeting:

First: Raising telegrams of thanks and gratitude:

  1. The participants in the meeting expressed their sincere thanks and gratitude to His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Qassim Region, for sponsoring the scientific meeting. A telegram of thanks is recommended for this purpose.
  2. The participants extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to His Excellency Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Abdul Rahman Al-Hamoudi, Rector of Qassim University, for his approval and support for the meeting, and it is recommended to raise a cable of thanks for that.
  3. The participants would like to thank all the companies and institutions that participated in supporting the meeting: Sheikh Hamoud Al-Ali Al-Khalaf, Othaim Holding Company, Tamimi Markets, Herfy Company, Sheikh Musaed Bin Muhammad Al-Mudaifer, Simaco Pharmaceutical Company, and the Qassim Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Second: The symposium concluded with the following recommendations:

  1. Attention to the preparation, preparation and cleaning of valleys in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in general and the Qassim region in particular, and work to remove all construction and obstacles in the streams of these valleys.
  2. Conducting periodic studies of the state of the valleys, assessing their conditions, taking all appropriate measures to avoid the dangers of their floods, and establishing a clear relationship between the size of the floods, weather conditions, land formations and human activities.
  3. The completion of an atlas of Wadi al-Rumma helps in the optimal planning of the establishment of communities close to the stream.
  4. Allocating a research chair to protect Wadi Al-Rumma.
  5. Follow-up investigation of polluted water sources that pollute the surface and implicit waters of Wadi Al-Rumma, work to understand the mechanisms of their work, and search for solutions to discharge sewage so as not to pose a threat to the valley's environment.
  6. The need to work on economic integration between the north and south of Wadi al-Rumma.
  7. Urging geographers and researchers of climate sciences, geology, geomorphology and engineering of various kinds to carry out permanent studies of Wadi Al-Rumma.
  8. The necessity of including urban abandonment units and affiliated names in the lists of place names in population censuses.
  9. Limiting urban expansion for village clusters in the Arabian Shield region, especially extreme ones with small sizes that lack any economic and service components.
  10. Recommending the establishment of scientific studies centers for urban studies at Qassim University.
  11. Paying attention to the local community for tourism development and distributing government services in a balanced manner among the governorates of Qassim region.
  12. The need to protect pastures located to the south and southwest of Al-Rass Governorate due to the importance of livestock in them.
  13. Introducing tourism through various media, and encouraging private investments in the sustainable tourism industry sector in the Qassim region
  14. Diversifying the tourism product in the Qassim region, such as: agricultural tourism, festivals, cultural and heritage tourism, and spreading natural reserves as a tourism product.
